Our spring Iowa Regional Convention is on February 26-27 (Friday-Saturday) at the Fairfield Inn & suites in Des Moines Urbandale. Please register for our convention and book your room(s) ASAP. I would like to share some information about the selection of this facility for our convention. As some of you may recall, during our fall leadership conference, it was suggested that a centrally location would be ideal for our regional convention. The recommendation were strongly in favor of “Des Moines area”. I called several hotels in Des Moines over the last few months and the most reasonable hotel I was able to find were Fairfield Inn and Holiday Inn Express in Urbandale. However, the Holiday Inn Express large meeting room was much smaller than Fairfield Inn. Therefore, Fairfield Inn became an obvious choice for our regional convention. The reason I am explaining this to all of you is; to be aware of the limited meeting space amenities. Our large general sessions’ room is about 1500 Square feet. Other than this large room, there is a large breakfast room and a small work/storage room. We have to utilize these areas for our five breakout sessions. Since our College Fair is scheduled on Friday (first day), their tables are going to be set up in the large meeting room, as well as the candidates’ booth for the regional officer. I hope as always, I can count on all of you to make our regional convention successful with your high level of professionalism, kindness and positive energy that you all bring to our convention.
Together we can make this year Iowa Regional Convention to be one of the best ever for our Phi Theta Kappa students.
The nice part of being in one place for the regional convention is that no one has to leave the hotel for convention unless we get more than 97 attendees. If we exceed 97 attendees and fill out all 24 rooms at the Fairfield Inn, then some guests could go to Holiday Inn express. I have reserved 5 additional two queen bed rooms at the Holiday Inn Express which is located right across from Fairfield Inn with the same price, and the same type of continental breakfast.
Please encourage your qualified dedicated and responsible members to apply and run for the regional officer. This is a great personal & professional achievements and a great leadership opportunity for them. Please see attached, officer candidacy packet, convention registration form and agenda which is subject to modification. You will receive the final agenda electronically prior to convention and at the convention registration table.
Please mail me any recognition traveling plaque your chapter received last year and has not been returned. Please mail it to me ASAP. I need to order new labels for these plaques for the new recipients. Thank you!
I can’t wait to see everyone at the regional convention! Hug,
